Every student receives a comprehensive eye examination on site, in school hours, to the same standard as a clinic visit, funded through Medicare at no cost to families. This compares to a screening, which only flags something that may need checking elsewhere.

We coordinate with the school, run examinations in 20 to 30 minute blocks, manage consent forms, and are packed up at the end of the school day. Students are away from class only for their own appointment.

Around one in five Australian children has an undetected vision problem that can affect learning (Optometry Australia). State screening does valuable work. A full examination on site completes the testing on the day, so families leave knowing the next step and prescription eyewear can be arranged from the same visit.
The Spectacle Accessibility Program is available only through participating schools. It exists so cost is not the reason a child goes without glasses.

Available to every student at a participating school, regardless of family circumstance. No means-testing, no paperwork, no awkward conversations.
To access the program, the student needs a current Australian optometry prescription. The on site examination takes care of that, or an existing prescription can be used.
Frames are chosen with the student for fit and for durability under real school conditions. Lenses include a hard coat and anti-reflective coating as standard.
Where a family has optical extras cover, the package can usually be claimed on the spot, and we provide an itemised receipt.
The process runs from the first setup call to reports landing in parents' inboxes, with almost nothing for teachers to do.

Consent forms (digital or paper) go home ahead of the visit. The school compiles interest and returns consents to us about 2 to 3 weeks before visit day.
The clinic vehicle on school grounds, or a full clinical setup in a quiet room. Students cycle through in 20 to 30 minute blocks. One student at a time, with a school staff member present.
Within two business days, each parent receives a report by email with findings, recommendations, and SAP eyewear options where relevant.
A parking spot for the clinic vehicle or a quiet area, and a staff coordinator we can organise with on scheduling. A staff member sits in on each examination. Nothing else is needed: no equipment, no setup and no clean up.
Our report goes straight to the parent, explains what we found in plain language, and sets out the next step, whether that is a prescription, a review date or a referral.

If glasses are recommended, parents know exactly what to do next, including how to access the SAP package without leaving the house.
For findings that need ophthalmology, GP follow-up, or specialty paediatric care, we send the referral and copy parents in, no extra appointment required to start the process.
Parents who'd like a follow up conversation can book time with the optometrist at no charge. We're available after school or at pick up to talk through results or fit glasses, or you can call during working hours.
We are bringing the program to schools across South East Queensland for 2027. Tell us about your school and we will send the program one pager, the full child safety documentation pack, and schedule a meeting ahead of time.
Yes. Children's prescriptions change quickly through the growth years, so a check every year or two is recommended even for a child already in glasses. The on site examination catches changes early, and any updated prescription can be filled through the SAP package.
No. Eye examinations during the school program are Medicare bulk billed for students with a current Medicare card. Any additional testing that is clinically indicated is bulk billed too, so there is no out of pocket cost for the examination.
The Spectacle Accessibility Program is a package available only through the school program. It includes the frame (any frame from our full range, the SOS Kids collection is a great starting point), single vision prescription lenses with anti-reflective coating, a case, fitting, and a 12 month hassle free frame warranty. Multifocal lenses are +$75. One pair is $129. Additional pairs for the same student are $179 for two and $199 for three. Your parent report notes any Medicare or health fund options that apply. The single pair program price does not change, whatever frame is chosen.
Yes. Participation is entirely voluntary and requires explicit parental consent. Students whose families have not returned a consent form will not be examined. There is no follow up or pressure if you choose not to participate.
If we identify anything that warrants ophthalmology, paediatric vision therapy, or GP follow-up, we issue the referral directly. You'll receive context about what we saw and what the next step involves.
Yes. You can book a home eye examination at any time, bulk billed, at the same standard of care. The SAP eyewear package is only available through participating schools, but the full eyewear collection is open to every patient. Book your child's eye test directly, or ask the school to contact us.
Parents can book an appointment directly. Schools can ask us to bring the program on site.
Even if your school is not yet part of the program, you can book a bulk billed eye exam directly, at home or anywhere we visit. We'll have your child's report to you within two business days of the appointment.

Our service model follows the pattern schools already know from visiting health programs: written parental consent before any child is seen, a school staff member present at every examination, and a full child-safety documentation pack available on request.
